Kodiaq-2 Problemen, storingen enz.

Hello,

I would like to have a clear understanding of the battery capacity of our 2025 Skoda Kodiaq iV.

We enjoy having a 2025 Skoda Kodiaq iV PHEV.

In last year's software update, you can now choose (and it is recommended) to have the maximum charge level automatically reset to 80% after a charge to a higher level.

We really only charge to 100% occasionally if we know we have to travel further the next day, and then the car automatically resets it to 80% for the next charge so that it never stays at 100% for long, as that would be considered bad.

Our specific question regarding our Kodiaq iV is the following:

Skoda states that the battery has a capacity of 25.7 kWh, of which 19.7 kWh is usable?

So, my assumption is the following:

If the difference between 0% and 100% is 19.7kWh, is there an extra safeguard built in by, for example, keeping 3kWh at the bottom and top as a margin to prevent deep discharging to real zero and prohibit maximum full charging to real 100%, thereby extending the battery's lifespan?

So 3kWh at the bottom, then the 19.7kWh usable (the 0-100% we see), and then another 3kWh at the top makes that 25.7kWh??

3kWh + 19.7kWh + 3kWh = 25.7kWh?

Incidentally, that would mean the 80% setting would indeed remain well below the "true" 80% of the full 25.7kWh. 25.7 - 3 at the top is 22.7, which would be the 100% you see in the car, and 80% of that is approximately 18.16 kWh.

That, in turn, would be 70.6% of the actual 100% (25.7 kWh), which aligns well with what experts are saying about extending battery life by avoiding even the 80% limit.

You read more and more that 70% is even better than 80%?

Can Skoda confirm if my above assumption is correct or give an explanation of how the battery system really is set up?

Regards and greetings from sunny Spain,

Leo Kroonenburg
==================================

Thank you for contacting us.

Thank you for your detailed inquiry regarding the battery capacity and charging management of your 2025 Škoda Kodiaq iV PHEV.

Škoda confirms that the total battery capacity of the 2025 Kodiaq iV is 25.7 kWh, with a usable capacity of 19.7 kWh. This design includes buffer margins at both the lower and upper ends of the battery charge to protect against deep discharging and overcharging, which helps extend the battery’s lifespan.

While the exact buffer values, such as the 3 kWh margins you mentioned, are not publicly specified, your understanding aligns well with the principle of these protective margins.

The automatic reset to 80% charge after charging to 100% is a recommended feature intended to minimize the time the battery spends at full charge, thereby supporting battery longevity. This means the effective charge limit is indeed below the full physical capacity, consistent with expert advice that charging to around 70-80% helps preserve battery health.

If you require further details on charging settings or battery management, we kindly suggest contacting your Škoda dealer for additional assistance.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
