Gear problem

Hello guys,

i think i need your helps in here. I have a Fabia 2012, recently i have problem only with Gear 5. From time to time i cannot shift into gear 5. when it happens, i drive around 10 minutes, then it works again. But sometimes i need to drive about 30 minutes till it working again. For the rest gears they are all good.

Would anyone please let me know if you had the same situation? do you might be know what was the issues ?

Synchromesh ís the English word, we don't have a Dutch translation :-).
If that's indeed the problem, I think that's going to be a very expensive repair if you're not able to do it yourself (and I personally wouldn't be able to, revising a gearbox is quite an expert job). A gearbox from the dump might be a better solution. Although for what I've understood, worn out synchromesh rings would also cause quite some noise besides difficult shifting.

If you're very lucky, it might be solved by adjusting the gearbox. That would be a very cheap fix compared with a revision or gear change.

Also check the oil and oil level in the gear box.
normally when you get in troubles with 5th gear (like it dis-engages it self while driving) it indicates that the gear box oil level is too low, with as a result issues with 5th gear.

First of all, is it a 5 or 6 gear car?
However, there is likely some adjusting possible in the linkage between the gearstick and the gearbox, so that's your first and cheapest try.

If the problem is only in fifth gear, it can be easy.
The fifth gear is behind a black lid on the side of the gearbox. The gearbox does not need to be disassembled for this.
