uiteindelijk toch een mooi resultaat:

Successful premiere in Monte Carlo Rally 1/26/2009 The Škoda Motorsport factory team presented two Fabia Super 2000 racing cars at this season' s first IRC event, entering a new stage of their Fabia Super 2000 project. Driven by Finns Juho Hänninen and Mikko Markkula and Czechs Jan Kopecký and Petr Starý, respectively, the cars had to cope with challenging conditions including rough weather and have shown that Škoda Motorsport has developed a competitive racing car. The results and performances put in by both drivers, especially over the first two days of the event, are considered very positive and beneficial for further work on the Fabia Super 2000 project.

Finland's Juho Hänninen was first after the first day, Jan Kopecký, despite technical problems in the first speed test, quickly fought his way up from the 24th place after that test to finish tenth in the end.

On Day 2 the event moved to snow-covered roads near Valence where both Škodas did well again, coming first in four speed tests of altogether six - Juho Hänninen three times and Jan Kopecký once. Moreover, when Jan finished second after his team-mate in one of the tests, the team was applauded by fans for achieving a “double“. However, the Finn had back luck in the last speed test of that day, falling down to the third place after one of his tyres got punctured. Continuing his way up, Jan Kopecký finished seventh.

The final part of the event brought the teams back to Monte Carlo. Although Juho Hänninen had to give up after an accident, he has shown that his experience is a great asset for Škoda Motorsport and that he is a good choice for the Fabia Super 2000 vehicle and the entire team. His performance at Stage 2, including three speed test wins, drew massive attention from both fans and media. Continuing his catch-up mission, Jan Kopecký put in another good performance and finished fourth in the total rankings.

Commenting on the factory team's Monte Carlo Rally performance, Head of Škoda Motorsport Michal Hrabánek said: “In the first place, we are glad to have completed this important stage of our vehicle development project and opened the door to a new one. The Fabia Super 2000 project is running on two complementary levels, racing and sales. We have certainly made a competitive car that is prepared to compete with the best in its class, and I also consider the team's performance at this year's Monte Carlo Rally good. I daresay we have shown our strength, but there's still a lot of work ahead of us and we have to work as hard and efficiently as we have been working so far and never lose respect for our competitors. I wish to thank all of the team members, i.e., the crews, mechanics, engineers and other people involved for excellent teamwork, and believe that this Monte Carlo premiere will motivate all of them to continue working hard. I also believe that we have done a great job in terms of promoting the Škoda brand. Our further racing agenda will depend on detailed analysis of the Monte Carlo Rally performance, but our plan to take part in a further five events of the 2009 IRC series remains unchanged for the time being.”

Summarising the whole competition, Juho Hänninen said: “Everything was going my way until Friday morning. I was surprised how fast I was able to go - the technicians did an excellent job and the car was working perfectly. Our tyre choices were very good, too, mainly thanks to my “on-track spies”.
I believe that the car's future results will be very good and that this event has shown its great potential. However, a lot of hard work is still ahead of us. I am sorry to have been too fast in Friday's speed test, I simply pushed it too hard as I wanted to make up for my one-minute loss. It's a pity, as the entire team has done a fantastic job here.”

Finishing fourth in the total rankings and getting five points in the driver competition, Jan Kopecký was more than happy: “The Fabia Super 2000 has shown how fast it is, and it's apparent that the direction we have set is good. All the kilometres done in last year's tests are an important factor behind this success. I wish to thank the whole team and the Škoda company for helping us move this project ahead, as well as the Czech fans along the roads

wederom mooie resultaten, tijdens de ronde van Montecarlo:

Škoda vehicles succeed in Monte Carlo
1/23/2010
All of the three crews of the Škoda Motorsport team managed to get among the first five in the ranking – Juho Hänninen came second, Nicolas Vouilloz third and Jan Kopecký fifth.

The Škoda vehicles managed to struggle their way to the podium for the first time over 78 years of the history of this famous rally event. Hänninen, the most successful of Škoda's three factory drivers in Monte Carlo, was fighting for a medal position from the first day – in the end, he came less than two minutes behind the winner. Kopecký, the other standing member of the Mladá Boleslav team, saw his chance to fight for the podium vanish in the haze right at the beginning, after losing over five minutes altogether due to defects in the first and second speed trials. Joining the Škoda factory team for this particular event, Frenchman Vouilloz made good use of knowing the ropes in Monte Carlo and finished third.

The Monte Carlo Rally, one of the most difficult events of the series, showed once again why it is often referred to as “legendary” - not only because this weekend's race was longest in its entire history, but also because the ever-changing conditions on the road made the tyre-selection alchemy enormously challenging. Moreover, the drivers had to do altogether 405 kilometres of speed trials and more than 1,200 kilometres between the respective stages over four days.

“This is a historic achievement for Škoda, the first time we have taken two podium positions in this most famous of rally races. At the same time, we see it as a challenge for the future and a motivation to fight for the highest positions. I am also very pleased with the success of the private Fabia Super 2000 cars that only show that the vehicle is good, powerful and reliable," said Head of the Škoda Motorsport team Michal Hrabánek.

"I am really satisfied with the outcome. I tried to drive tactically, without risking too much. I wished there had been more snow on the track, but the race was very long and challenging even as it was,” said Hänninen.

Commenting on his participation in the team, France's Nicolas Vouilloz said: “I was playing it safe not to disappoint the people at Škoda Motorsport who trusted me. I appreciate this opportunity to drive the Škoda Fabia S2000 at the Monte Carlo Rally, and I am indeed very happy about the result.”

"With the defects that we had in the first and second stages and the overall difficulty of this race, we are satisfied with the result,” said Jan Kopecký, who had managed to get among the best three in several speed trials after severe problems at the beginning of the race.

“As part of our agenda for this season, both Škoda Motorsport crews, i.e., Kopecký and Hänninen, are going to appear in the second and third races of the IRC series in South America,“ said Michal Hrabánek.

Hallo allemaal,

Groeten Kees

Škoda Motorsport team excels at Rally Madeira
8/7/2010
The eighth IRC championship, the Rally held on the Portuguese island of Madeira, was dominated by cars from the Škoda Motorsport factory team.

Coming in first place was the Freddy Loix-Fréderic Miclotte team, starting thanks to the support of the Belgian importer for the Škoda factory team and won in the IRC for the second time in a short period. In second place came the Jan Kopecký-Petr Starý team, which solidified its overall second place in the IRC, and Juho Hänninen and Mikko Markkula fought it out for third place in a beautiful competition on the final special stages. Hänninen is still holding onto the lead in the championship and Škoda still leads in the manufacturer standings.

Michal Hrabánek, head of the Škoda Motorsport team: “We got back the points we lost in the Azores and we’re incredibly happy. The whole team worked perfectly, all three cars ran with no problems and the crews dealt fantastically with a difficult track and the strong competition that gathered for the start of this rally. We started here for the first time and the situation at the beginning of the rally wasn’t looking at all simple, so we really appreciate the result we’ve gotten here. Right away next week we’ll start preparing for one of the highlights of this year’s season, the home Rally in Zlín, which by current indications will have the best quality lineup of drivers in the IRC this year. We feel confident that the Zlín Rally will excite great interest especially among Czech fans, just as in previous years.”

Freddy Loix: “I felt really good about the car during the whole rally; how it was prepared gave me a lot of self-confidence. After the first day I believed I could win the whole race. I’m looking forward to another start with the Fabia Super 2000 in Zlín, where the competition will be top-notch.”

Jan Kopecký: “It’s a fantastic success for the whole Škoda brand. It was difficult for us, because we were starting in an unfamiliar environment and we didn’t manage to use the whole width of the track. I would like to invite all the fans to our home rally in Zlín; it’s going to be a great show.”

Juho Hänninen: “I’m satisfied with third place; realistically speaking, it was the best Mikko and I could have achieved here on an unfamiliar track. We were also really lucky that we were able to continue in the race at all after slipping on the oil spilled on the road.”
