Andreas impresses in Finland with Volkswagen Motorsports Fabia S2000
Andreas Mikkelsen and co-driver Ola Fløene were holding an impressive 3rd in Super 2000 and 15th overall on Rally Finland when their ŠKODA Fabia S2000 damaged its radiator in a big hole on SS17 and was forced to retire on the final day of the event.
The stage had been run in the morning and deep ruts had appeared in the surface. The hole in question was at the exit of a hairpin and there was very little opportunity to see it and even less chance to avoid it. Unfortunately the car’s radiator was damaged, the water leaked out the engine temperature had begun to rise by the time Andreas had completed the stage with an excellent time. With two stages to follow before a refuel only stop, there was no option but to withdraw the car.
Andreas had done an excellent job for Volkswagen Motorsport, which was running the car as team practice for its FIA World Rally Championship campaign, which begins in 2013.
Juho Hänninen won Super 2000 by 2mins 37.7secs, and finished an incredible 10th overall in the Red Bull ŠKODA Fabia S2000.
